Kato founded SCRAP Entertainment and opened his first escape room. His first attraction was deliberately made very difficult and only six of the first 150 people who visited the room were able to complete the game. The first such events were located in bars or clubs and tickets were sold out in increasing numbers. The success of the early events gave impetus, and the campaign is now located in chapters around the globe.
From Japan, quest rooms spread to Singapore in 2011 and then to San Francisco in 2012. They spread to Romania, Hungary, and Switzerland around the same time. In December 2013, more than a hundred were registered in Asia, and by 2015, 1,765 rooms had already been opened around the world. Nowadays, more and more new escape rooms appear everywhere.
The future of escape rooms is difficult to predict as it is even now a fairly new field. However, we can definitely say that it is attractive not only for visitors but also for entrepreneurs. With the proper approach, the payback of such attractions can be tenfold in the first year. It is also an area in which designers, actors, writers, etc. can prove themselves. The styles of the rooms can vary greatly. It can be a fantasy of the Middle Ages or the wild west, a fantastic future, or dark noir.
