Answers To Crucial Salesforce Interview Questions

Salesforce is the world’s leading provider of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and has been a mainstay in companies that rely on sales for their business. Many people have questions about what it takes to work at salesforce and what skills employers are looking for when they interview potential employees.

To help you prepare for your upcoming interview with salesforce, we’ve put together answers to some of the most common questions asked during interviews. Experts at salesforce consulting companies Pennsylvania can also help you prepare for an interview.

1. What Are Governor Limits?

Governor limits are the max number of records that can be viewed or accessed for a given page, record, report, and section. For example, if you have set up your reports to show 100 records per page on a screen, then when someone views their dashboard, they will only see 100 rows in total as opposed to 1000 rows.

The more governor limits you add into salesforce, the higher chance there is for performance issues from too many people viewing the same data simultaneously.

2. Why Are Visualforce Pages Served From A Different Domain?

This is done for security purposes. Visualforce pages are rendered from a different domain to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS) and other malicious attacks involving JavaScript code being injected into an HTML page.

Keeping them separate from salesforce’s core platform will stop hackers from exploiting vulnerabilities in the system that could be used to hack into your organization.

3. What’s A Bucket Field?

A “bucket” field in salesforce is just a catch-all term for any field that doesn’t fit into one of the other fields. For example, you might have an address or phone number type and then create custom fields for street address, city, state or province and country. This would be considered a bucket field because it isn’t specific enough to go on its tab in Reports.

4. Can You Have A Roll-Up Summary Field Where There’s Master-Detail Relationship?

Yes, you can. The only condition is that both fields should be in the same hierarchy level. Roll-up summary field functionality has been improved and enhanced since Salesforce Classic to include hierarchical relationships as well.

5. What’s WhoId And WhatId?

WhoId and WhatId are identifiers on a particular object in salesforce. When you create an activity, the WhoId is automatically generated, while the WhatId can either be left blank or assigned manually. The WhoId uniquely identifies what user created this activity while the Whatid tracks the type of object edited by them.

6. What’s “Data Skew” In Salesforce?

Data skew is typically seen when a company has multiple customers with the same data in different schemas. If this happens, salesforce will pick one schema to be “the best fit” for the customer, and then all of their future objects are created on that schema instead.

It can also happen if two or more companies merge and you don’t have an integration strategy set up beforehand. Data skew can lead to frustration because it might seem like changes made by one business unit aren’t reflected in other areas of your organization where they should be visible.

The Bottom Line

If you want to ace your next Salesforce interview, then these questions are great examples of the things that will be asked.
